Having succumbed to all the recent marketing hype influence of FF and purchased a 5DIII, in summary it is  a great camera in all but mainly two aspects, the extra reach of the APS-C and a much faster frame rate. A 500/4 is just too short on a FF for wildlife where there is never enough reach. I know I could have used the extra 1.6x the other day and regret using the 7D except for the much more consistently  accurate focus and cleaner image.

I will gladly pony up the $+2K if Canon gets it right. I would even consider one with the larger builtin battery grip if it truely will drive my 500/4 lens faster. The sensor better be awesome at high ISO, otherwise I will be grumbling and looking at a Nikon.
