M42 adapter, Pentacon 1.8f/50mm, Samsung NX20
Mar 7, 2013
Hey all, I have ventured into the world of adapters to try out some cheaper lenses before i spend the big bucks on the official Samsung stuff. It is proving to be a good learning experience. Anyways. I picked up this Kiwifotos adapter on ebay since I have heard good things about the brand, and i didn't want to muck around with adapter modifications. It fits nice and snug and doesn't give me the "No lens Attached" error that many get. I also picked up this 50mm prime lens, and this is what I came up with during my test shots.
The main things that I would like to note are the wonders of the 1.8f aperture The shallow depth of field is going to be really fun to play with, and I actually enjoy having the manual aperture ring. The downside, is that I was bought the 50mm lens to use a a portrait lens, but it feels like it would be a much better macro lens since the NX20 is not a full frame camera, and the adapter has some length to it, so it is acting like an extension tube. I really wanted to get the shallow depth of field to blur out backgrounds in portrait shots, but I have to be way too close to the subject to achieve that. Regardless, it is a fun combo, and I will use the crap out of them.
