Same here, I use CS2, converting the Sony RAW, with IDC, to a jpg, then opening the jpg in CS2 for further edits. Works for me.
Converting to (8-bit) JPEG is bad. Converting to a 16-bit TIFF would be much better.
You will loose precision in editing with only 8-bit and the chances of your edits creating posterization (banding of smooth gradients) are greatly increased.
