Travel camera dilema
I think you need to decide on the form factor first.
When I travel I usually take two cameras -- a dslr with a couple lenses, and a canon s95. Some days I carry the dslr, but some days the s95. Depends on what the plan is for the day. If I could only take one camera, it would be the s95, because it fits in a shirt pocket. In good light the photos are just as good as the dslr with the kit lens for nearly every purpose. It's not as good for really big enlargements, or in the dark.
My sister uses the S95 and it's a nice little camera.
The distortions of the lens (wide barrel distortion) you can work on in post if you shoot RAW.
The S100 is also nice and has a little more wide angle (24 to 28 35mm equivalent).
