Canon Pro9000 Mark II ink question

I have the Canon Pro9000 Mark II and even though I have set the printer options in Windows XP to use grayscale printing (for most of the time unless I want to print in color), I noticed it doesn't use the black ink as much.  Other inks get used up.

How can I get the printer to use only the black ink cartridge instead of the other colors.  What I believe is happening is that it is mixing the other colors to make black.

I have gone through the printer settings and can't find anything that can do this.

Thanks,

Bob
