Monopod Head ?

I am about to buy my first monopod. I am leaning toward the carbon fiber Sirui, although I am still open to suggestions.
Do I need a monopod head?
Some have suggested attaching the monopod directly to the lens collar. I have also heard conflicting advice on ball-heads for monopods. I do have the Manfrotto 496 head on my tripod, so I guess it makes sense to stick with the same brand quick-release plate. But, I don't know. Is there a benefit to attaching a monopod head if shooting sports?
Check out the Manfroto 393 gimbal head.... lot cheaper than the Wimberly! If ou can hand hold I suggest that you do so. If you can't then your rig is probably pretty big and you need this sort of head rather than a simple ball head. When your lens mounts via a large collar with hand grip you will have a substantial offset between the mounting plate and the center line of your lens.
