Hi Jay, don't pay any attention to rude comments.  I do remember the beautiful viewing screens that snapped the subject into focus.  I always used a micro prism screen that when a subject was in focus the image was very sharp and bright in the viewfinder.  I still have some photos of my daughters taken with a Pentax H1A in the late 60's.  I think it had a 50mm f1.4 lens that was as smooth as butter.  No darn electronics and yes the exposures were probably less of a problem than the modern cameras with the matrix which I hardly ever use.  I like spot metering and center weighted metering.  Anyway I can relate to what your saying.  This af thing has become too complex and people are having trouble with it because some subjects should be manual focused and too many options in the af settings.
