How did you setup you storage for Lightroom 4?
Adobe does not like that you use the catalog from two machines. Best way is to switch to either mac or windows completely. What you could try is putting the catalog on the network and open it with either of the machines. If that doesn't work, you can just hope Adobe listens to the users and includes shared access with the next version.
Network as such is not supported, but works fine. I have my catalog locally on the mbp, but folders on a NAS. There are way too many images to keep them locally and a single external disk is not much better. NAS is working fine so far. I can move files between local and network folders easily. Only thing is that LR does not mount the network drive alone. I have to open finder and get it connected. Lightroom can stay open, it gets it as soon as the drive is mapped.
