Yes, a hood surely would help again outside light sources. What remains are those light-sources that are within the frame or on the edge of the frame, either partly inside, or ​right on the edge​. The latter seems to be the worst if you look at these three images.

Interestingly it seems that the more widely spread purple tint of the "outside the frame" lightsource gets more focused to horizontal+vertical streaks when the lightsource enters the frame.

Lightsource just outside the frame.

Lightsource just inside the frame.

Lightsource exactly on the edge of the frame.
