This is the most versatile general-purpose lens of all. It's like a Swiss Army knife. Now, do you expect to drive a screw using the screwdriver in that knife as quickly as a normal hand tool, or cut paper as easily as a normal scissor, or open a bottle of wine... The fact is, with a bit of work, this lens can produce very decent photos or video, and often when other lenses are unable to produce any at all because they are not available with you, cannot be mounted quickly enough when something happens, is not safe to be mounted due to rain, ...  Like that knife, it can be very useful and also a life saver in some situations.  My advice is to accept some sacrifice in image quality and enjoy what this lens can do. If however, you want really good image quality or speed, then just get the 12-35mm f/2.8, or use prime lenses, or better still, use FF cameras.

Many people complain about this lens because they do not see all aspects and features and they have not considered how the lens can be useful. Buy it only if you know what it is.
