ISO 6400, Bah! Humbug!

I am quite certain that there was no shortage of individuals saying the same thing when someone started building a car that could go 60 mph, or the first time a ship was built out of metal, or when someone suggested there could be a flying object, or that television was actually possible, or that you could buy a 2TB hard drive to connect to your PC for less than $100.

Must you have ISO 6400 to take a photo? Of course not. Silly question. Does it come in handy in specific circumstances? You bet.

We constantly strive to make the things around us better. Can we live without them? Sure, there were times when a loin cloth and a spear would do one just fine. But to suggest we have reached the pinnacle of achievement when we have reached ISO6400 just begs the question "Who decides when no further technological advancement is necessary?" Or what would have happened if in all the examples above the naysayers had prevented invention and innovation?
