From a business stand point you can consider it a marketing investment in the brand. If they show support for the remainder 4/3rd owner and not abandon, it strengthens the brand. If they can do so with minimum R&D and cash spend, then it's worth it.

Also a way to get the remaining stock of 4/3rd lenses out.

But as I noted the Four Thirds world is not the most rational place in the universe.
