Hey starred, I have....

First I got the 85mm and loved it.

Then a friend talked me into the 105 VR.  Great lens, sharp, silent, quick focus.  Used it several times.

inside in the studio I prefer the 85mm.  I get get closer to the subject, work with them, a more intimate space. Both are excellent, but I find myself using the 85mm more for head shots.

Sometimes a client wants a real tight head shot, and I grab the 105mm.

I use the 85mm 90% of the time.

If you purchase only the 105mm, you may find yourself 16 feet away from the client and loose the intimate working distance.
