Others have already given you many useful suggestion. Apart from EV bracketing and using a graduated ND filter you can also try changing the White Balance. If you've kept it at AWB settings, the camera might actually compensate the red using warm WB. Instead, try manual WB with cool temp setting to get a dramatic red. Let us know the results.
