Re: Nikon lens rebates expiring this weekend. I caved and bought the 85F1.8g

I already have a 24-70, which is a superb lens.   I've had it for about 4 years now.

My 'dilemma' tends to be whether or not to upgrade or to save for a massively expensive lens.

I have 14-24, 24-70 and 80-200F2.8 (push-pull).  24f2,8Af, 35F2 AF-D, 50F1.8AF, 85F1.8 AF and 105vr.  My long lenses are 80-400vr and 300F4 with 1.4TC.

My 'needs' are really for something like a 500F4.   But at $8400, I'm coming to the conclusion that I will probably never have one of these.     I've instead got a Nikon V1 with FT-1 adaptor, so that in some cases I can use that for an effect 1134mm for some wildlife.

Other than that, I'm really looking at using what I have, or going for minimal returns by upgrading something.   I do like my 85F1.8AF, but I just can't shoot it at 1.8.   I think I can shoot the 1.8g at 1.8.   I would love to have a 1.4g and shoot that around 1.8 too.

Same with the 80-200F2.8.   Can't really shoot it wide open.  I generally use F3.5-4.0.   Would love to have VR.   But is it worth spending $2200 to get VR and a bit more sharpness or a bit wider aperture?   So far I've found lots of other stuff I need more.

Once you have a bag full of lenses - in fact, too many to fit in a backpack, they ALL become specialty lenses.   If I had a D800, I'd probably have to shelve the old AF/AF-D lenses as not sharp enough, but they tend to work fine on my 12mp cameras.
