My computer is now about one year old. I'm thinking may be the BIOS should be up dated. But I don't know what to do to get it done.

My computer has Asus P8Z68-V-Pro and i7 2600k cpu @ 3.40GHz

You got a pretty consistent (and correct, imo) answer.  BIOS updates are typically done to support a new cpu or memory speed, or because you're getting unexplainable crashes and you're hoping it's a hardware glitch.   If you go to the Asus site and get the most recent non-beta bios download, you can read the release notes and see what's been in the last few revisions.  BIOS upgrades aren't that hard to do, but as said, do present the possibility of killing your machine, so it doesn't make sense to do unless you're getting something out of it.
