I disagree on last comment, as depends on lens used not just body (FX or DX). 60mm micro G is 1:1 and you can focus to 6 inches on APSC like my D300s. See my comment below with images to show this on this camera. It would more depend on the sensor resolution of 12mp vs 24mp vs 36mp for amount of image detail represented.

Which lens you use and available light also factors and how close to subject. My opinion. I also have D700 with 24-70mm to compare results on optimum glass or bodies. 24-70mm is not macro however I still use for closeup details (and can do wedding ring photos with cropping later in a pinch if I do not have time to switch) but 60mm will get much closer for detail and capture more detail on DX or FX without need to crop later. I do not have 105mm macro. 60mm micro G on D300s looks impressive with sufficient lighting and if you open my samples to full screen in next comment below from me (Adrian Van), you will see fine sharp surface texture in image 1 of car stereo.
