Just to make it clear when I said "One tip was to remove the waste ink recepticle and put a damp sponge in its place. The evaporating water will reduce the speed of the ink drying on the (static) head."

What I meant was that you put the sponge in the slot when the machine was standing idle - not when in use of course.

Another tip was to run a nozzle check every couple of days even if you don't intend to print. It'll use very little ink and save wasting ink on a stronger purge. You can run the check from the buttons on the machine and that takes less time than sending the instruction from your PC.
