Yes and no.


You can play this game endlessly, using any two cameras of your choice.

D800 vs. 645D, Nikon 1 vs. D7000, any P&S vs. Nikon 1...

With suitably non-critical subject matter, lighting and magnification, you can make a case that there isn't that much advantage in going with a larger sensor. And you'd be correct.

On the other hand, if you were to ask me which of your sample images was "better", the Nikon 1 - even with the kit zoom - clearly outpaces the Canon compact in sharpness and, particularly, in having lower lens distortion.

You don't even have to tell me which is which.
