This is not true for the EPL5.

The menu setting lets you specify a preference for lens-based OIS rather than the EPL5's IBIS. Once set that way, the EPL5 uses lens OIS wherever it exists. The menu item is disabled when a lens without OIS is mounted. I have my EPL5 set to always use OIS rather than IBIS when the lens has that capacity.

Good decision from mh experience with the Panny OIS, Bowy.

But your post answers the OP's questions -- no, he cannot switch OIS in the X lens when fitted to an E-PL1, and further, it is switched off, so he has to use the cqmera's IBIS if he wants IS.
