I was at the mall today and stopped in the Apple store. Hadn't seen the newer iMacs. Not sure why Apple needed to make a desktop as thin as possible since, well its a desktop. Anyway, I noticed the slot for the SD is placed very inconveniently on the back making it a real pain to work with. Function should trump form, these are tools first. Anyway, I can see why the OP, if he has a new iMac, might want to use a cable instead of slipping the SD card in, Apple made it difficult to use.

The slot is, indeed, located poorly. However, the new iMac is much lighter than the old one, and in Japan, which constantly quakes, it makes the computer much more stable on its stand. I am surprised how stable this is. California, a place that also quakes (though no where near as often as Japan does), is where Apple designed the iMac. I have a feeling that its thinness was begat by quake-scared engineers.
