d7100 seems awesome, maybe a better d800 than the d800?

I agree.

I have been waiting a long time to upgrade my D300 and was expecting to pay around $1800 to do so.

The D600 looked promising, but the build is weak and I love the weather-proofing of my D300 (never had a dust problem).

Now with the D7100, at about $1100.00 I can get a major upgrade to my D300 and save some real money.  The only drawback is the small buffer, and the fact that the D300 allows 9 shots in bracketing compared to 5 for the D7100 (probably due to the small buffer).

Looking back at my past photos, I realized that I rarely if ever used those features.

As soon as the reviews are out, and if they confirm the specs, I will be getting a D7100.

(unless a D400 is announced soon with specs that blow me away).
