I'm not necessarily recommending freezing, but freezing can temporarily get you past certain issues, sometimes enough to finish a backup. My freeze technique is to used "canned air" (it's not really air), but upside down, which comes out as a freeze spay. They also sell actual freeze sprays for electronics troubleshooting (you can Google it if you are curious). I've done it at least once in the past with a hard drive and recovered data, and I've used it a few times when repairing electronics.
