On the subject of bokeh and the 35-1.8 ...

The choice of background in a portrait is more important than the quality of the bokeh.  It can be controlled either at the time of taking the picture or in the dark/light room.

My experience with the 35-1.8 has been very positive and has provided many fine photos.  It is also very nimble and easy to cary around.

If you really care that much about bokeh and don't want to have to think about it, the Sigma 30-1.4 is the one to use; not the same perspective though.  You will have to have some sort of relationship with the model.
