Yah, I would definitely take the 17-55 . The 100mm is debatable.

As far as a tripod goes, most of the day most tourist destinations will be pretty crowded. Use inside Mosques will be hit and miss depending on the situation. Almost all of my shots are without a tripod. You could compose some nice night time cityscapes if that's your thing.

It is very easy to get stuck in the Sultan Ahmed area, but there are jewels throughout the city. If you are determined you can set out in the morning and see a lot of the secondary attractions spread throughout the city without the hoards of tourists.

If you buy the Freely book now you can spend some touring the city in its pages (It's really that good) and slowly develop an idea of what interests you. Available from Amazon for Kindle or paperback.

The Grand Bazaar has over the years become a massive tee shirt shop with some nicer sections of gold, books, and antiques. Bargains are not common. For more of a bazaar experience wander around the area surrounding the New Mosque and Spice Bazaar.

Try to visit the world class Archaeological Museum just downhill from Hagia Sophia.

Whatever you do stay loose and have fun!
