Still, lousy flash performance (overexposure) on a modern enthusiast compact camera is inexcusable.

My general thought is that flashes on small point and shoots in general are inexcusable. I haven't seen one I liked. I do like my Q with a wireless trigger hooked to a few alien bees

Unfortunately Pentax left the hotshoe off this one, which would influence my decision to purchase it since the EX2, LX7, etc have hotshoes.

Well, I used a lot of point and shoots with very good flash performance, it should not be so hard for Pentax now. To name a few, Canon A80 (excellent), Fuji F10, F30 (very good), F40, F200 (great), Canon SD880 (good). But I noticed Pentax on-board flash performance (mainly exposure control) is declining, istDL is better then K100D, K100D better then K-x, K-x better then K-01. I am also not too happy with Q on-board flash, all mentioned point and shoots have better flash performance. How hard it is in 2013 to make a decent auto mode (at least) flash operation on an enthusiast point and shoot like MX1?
