For a safari which lens??

If I did the trip again, and based on my previous experience, I would probably take a Nikon V2 that allows a 2.7x crop factor to get closer up, perhaps a V1 with two kit lenses for general photo grabs, a 50-500mm OS Sigma (new version that works with 1 series), a 70-300mm vr or a 28-300mm vr  and finally a D800 or D600. This is quite lightweight and ultra reach.

This way you get reach relatively cheap (Nikon 1 series ) , low light capability (with fx cameras) and versatility (3 cameras total)
