Maybe the 50 1.4 would be best for me? Knowing it isn't the greatest wide open, but with just a little stopping down with that lens, I might still get away with 2.8. But I don't know. That's why I'm asking this now. Maybe a cheapo 50 1.8 stopped down to 2.2 or 2.8 might get there at half the price. Thoughts?

you can see in link below the 35f2 is better than the 50 f1.8 at f2

one doesn't buy this lens to stop down. you have zoom for stopped down

one doesn't care about the corners for wide open or near wide open portrait shooting

one cares about blurring the clutter in the backdrop

I like mine btw - $289 - and I have 50 f1.4 and 50 f1.8 - the 35 is better focal length for crop
