Position...

I just sold my 450D a few months ago when I traded up to a T3i because I got a super deal on it and I wanted more MP for cropping. At the time it was current the 450D was the rough equivalent to the upper Rebels now in that it was not a bargain model with visible cheapness to it while the 1100D, I believe, is rather that way.

They should take exactly the same photos, the 1100D takes some basic video (450D doesn't do video), 1100D I think has a few more resolutions you can select from. For all practical purposes the sensor is the same and if you're going to do any PP'ing then any difference in the cameras' JPG engine is not important. The only big thing I see the 1100D having is the ability to shoot at ISO 6400 in-camera.

If you're going to do low light or action shooting where high ISO is important then the 1100D is the better choice, but if you're not expecting to have to go past 1600 most of the time the 450D is an excellent camera. It got a great review at DPR which praised its pixel-level sharpness.

You don't TAKE a photo, you MAKE a photo.
