G15 aperture

I have been using a G15 for a while. I shoot in P mode typically. One of the things I don't like is that the G15 always seems to choose the widest aperture setting.

One some of the earlier Canon G series cameras I don't recall this being the case. I have always preferred a bit of depth of field as default. For example on the G12 say if there was enough light it would choose f4 instead of f2.8 at wide.

In P mode I am finding the G15 will often select f1.8 by default even if there is sufficient light to allow for f4 at a high shutter speed. The point is I would prefer to have a good depth of field as the default. If I want a shallow dof (bokeh) then I would rather have to adjust a setting to acheive this then for it o tbe the default in P mode.

Of course I appreciate that the f1.8 capability is one of the selling points of the G15, but that doesn't mean most people will want such a wide aperture as the default in good light. I would prefer it if f1.8 kicked only if the shutter speed fell below 1/60, say.

Have any other G15 users noticed this when comparing to earlier 'G' models?
