Correct, LR only shows the bits of your file system that you have imported.

Maybe I'm missing how to see that in LR. I was hoping to be able to move images out of LR and into a folder that I have not imported to LR. I think the only way for me to do this is by exporting them out, then deleting them from the original disk location using LR


If the intention is to remove files from LR then (assuming you don't want to retain adjustments for said files) move them in Windows Explorer and then synchronise the relavant bit of your LR catalog. This will then remove references to the files that it can no longer see. If you just want to move them elsewhere but keep them in your LR catalog then simply create your new target folder within LR and drag and drop the items in LR catalog.
