You must know this, but just to check; you do have the exposure compensation set to zero right?

If the camera is always under-exposing, you could set the exposure compensation to +1 or +2, that would NOT have to be reset between use. If that fixes the issue, I would call it a temp fix only - sounds like something is wrong with the camera. Take it back and have it checked, it is probably just be broken.
