I'd strongly suggest that you find somewhere indoors to do your photography, otherwise you are limiting yourself to dry, windless days, when the sun is going to dominate the lighting anyway.

Quite honestly, for inanimate objects indoors you don't need flash. Continuous lighting is cheaper than lashings of flash power, and much easier to judge.

Can't you scrounge the use of a barn, scout hall, big garage or any other indoor space about 20 feet square?
