Re: Resolving power of the Sigma 500/4.5

Very nice shot.

I have seen many fine images taken with the Sigma 500mm and screwdrive doesn't really seem to be much of an issue either from what I have heard from the users. I know we'd all like whisper quiet HSM but it doesn't seem to scare away the subjects.

Like everyone else, I await some good real world testing reports for the 560mm to see how it performs. But, I think even if I had the money to afford it, I'd still prefer to save myself £2K and get the Sigma rather than pay the £6K price for the 560mm...... unless of course my lottery numbers come up at the weekend, in which case I might reconsider, just for bragging rights of course!

Edit to add.... my DA*300mm paired with the 1.7x AFA still produces fantastic detail, so I'll stick with that setup for the time being as it gives me 510mm and is a great handheld combo.

Here's one from a week or so ago.  Like your shot, a crop from the original shows plenty of detail, and as the DA*300mm is currently less than 1/6th the price of the new biggie lens, it'll do me just fine.
