Re: Why No Nikon f1.2 G Lenses?

I agree with others who have said an excellent 50mm-60mm f/1.4 would be acceptable, and probably more practical. I have the 50mm f/1.4G and it's a decent lens, but it's just missing that little bit of magic.

  • Nanocoating
  • Excellent performance at f/1.4, as good or better than the 85mm f/1.4. Sharp in center and corners, high contrast, and low CA (the 50mm. f/1.4G has a lot of CA wide open).
  • Smooth manual focusing option. I don't like the MF action of the current G lenses, it feels rough and cheap.
  • Faster AF performance and better tracking accuracy.
  • f/22 minimum aperture with acceptably low diffraction effects at f/16.
  • As close focusing as possible. The current 50mm f/1.4G minimum focus distance is about 1.5 feet, I would love to see something closer to 1 foot.
  • Under ~$1,200.
That's a lens that would find itself stuck on my camera a lot.
