Is Nikon D3 still a good buy?

Assuming everything on the camera works fine, that would be a steal. A lot of people put too much emphasis on just the shutter actuations. It is actually one very small part. You can get the entire D3 shutter replaced for $350. What you need to check is whether the other stuff works ok including (but not limited to) - AF, Metering, all the buttons and switches, the LCD (which has a tendency to fog up in D3), etc.

I am actually very skeptical about the price. Sounds too good to be true.

I have a D3 and a D800. I used the D800 only for landscape and portraits. For everything else, I continue to use the D3.
