Your statement that OoC JPEG cannot be altered in PP for anything but small sized prints is simply incorrect. Period. It can, and regularly is.

And those phone-cam pics I regularly post could not be a better example.

Thanks pris.

At web resolutions and an 8 bit sRGB colour space, almost anything looks terrific

Phone cam JPG, heavily post-processed, in larger than web resolution format,

Early morning ..

As pris told you, you can believe anything you want.

You appear to believe anything you want; so why should I have any lesser right?

Nice shot, BTW.
Shame about the lack of detail in the full size image; and the lack of tonal gradation.
Maybe you should shoot RAW with your D800 instead ...

Compare your "heavily PP" shot with those taken with my phone cam. There is heaps of detail and tonal richness in them, probably because I haven't PP the fragile JPEGs to death ...

Here is the motorcycle shot again for direct comparison ...

Also note the tonal gradations in the trailer axle hubs. They are all identical, it is merely the light that changes from one to another. I value subtle tones in my images ...

Both of these are as shot. Straight from the phone cam.
