HIgh ISO--One more tool to work with

Do you think you will get quality images at iso6400 with any system, ever? they may be ok but useful for what exactly? Why is a forum dedicated to a lower-end of camera systems seemingly obsessed with iso6400? OK, maybe camera y isnt as good as x at iso6400, who gives a xxxx, buy some decent glass. You would have to be shooting in a tunnel at night not to be able to get a decent result with f1.4/1.8 glass at iso1600, even 3200 is the max you want to be at, shotts above these iso's are really because there is no alternative, we've run out of f stops, we are at long focal lengths, we cant use flash. But let's be honest most of us are shooting closer to base, aren't we?

I like it when I can shoot at or near base ISO!

Nikon D3 ,Nikkor 200mm f/2G IF-ED AF-S VR
1/1000s f/4.0 at 200.0mm iso200

However, it's not always possible for me to do so. And even when shooting at high ISO's (Almost always in RAW) I sometimes intentionally underexpose if I need to avoid too slow of a shutter speed and use exposure compensation in post (the old "push processing)

Take the shot below.

I needed at least 1/500th sec to freeze the action. The nightime lighting was mixed and even shooting wide open (f/2.8) at ISO 6400 I was underexposing:

Nikon D3 ,Nikkor 200mm f/2G IF-ED AF-S VR ,TC 14 E-II
1/500s f/2.8 at 280.0mm iso6400

This young "Elvis" was gyrating enough that I was keeping motion blur even on some shots at 1/160th sec. The nightclub lighting was like shooting in a cave:

Nikon D3 ,Nikkor 85mm f/1.4D IF AF
1/200s f/1.4 at 85.0mm iso5000

Even with an f/1.4 lens, I had to bump the ISO.

And then sometimes I not only have to deal with cavelike lighting, but actual cave lighting!:

Nikon D3 ,Nikkor 28mm f/1.4D AF
1/60s f/1.4 at 28.0mm iso3200
