4EV does not even begin to cover it.

Have you tried shooting raw and pulling back the shadows? should be good for 3 stops in lr4, therefore, f1.4 at iso1000 and 1/100 sec maybe more should be possible with 4ev!

BUt that's about same thing, meaning camera is able to produce decent results at 6400ISO equiv exposure. If it's not, it doesn't matter how you do it, shoot at 1000 and push 2.7 stops or shoot 6400 as set in-camera.

The way you put it, it seems no one ever shoots at low light situations and needs higher SS so that the exposure is pretty low. Try to freeze an athlete at a basketball game inside the local school arena which is usually poorly lit (not at big pro one). SS=1/100s is not enough. Same for ballet.

A D4 will shoot an dproduce excellent 6400 images, as will the D600. The D7000/D5100 will start to struggle badly, at 3200 it is fairly good. It seems the D5200 will manage it better, but it's still not at the present FF level or even at the D3/D700's level, a full generation ago.
