A+ uses the Auto picture style, and it is not user-adjustable.

In P, Av, Tv, M the user can select the picture style (pp. 93-94 of the T4i instruction manual).  Adjustments to the picture style's default settings can be made to Sharpness, Contrast, Saturation, Color Tone, plus Filter Effect and Toning for Monochrome (black and white).  See pp. 130-134.

I will try again with the same settings.

I will also shoot in RAW to check the unprocessed results. Currently I only shoot jpeg because I want to avoid as much post processing as possible.

The picture style set in-camera will be the default for the RAW file, but can be changed/adjusted in post-processing.  It cannot be changed for jpeg files.
