D800 matrix metering vs. D600 matrix metering.

One of the frustrations I had, with the D600 I returned, was the inconsistent matrix metering. I was told, by many people that responded to the thread I started, there was nothing wrong with the way the D600 metered. This was despite showing similar cases where the Canon 7D handled the evaluative metering much better. In fact, every camera I had handled it better than the D600.

I'm happy to find the D800 is much, much better in this regard.

Here are two shots. The first was taken with the D600 and the kit lens. The focus point was over the center light.

Here is the same shot, taken with the D800. I no longer have the kit lens so I used the 50mm with the aperture set to F4.5 to come close. It actually didn't matter...being close. I tried it with other lenses and apertures and the results were similar.
