what defines an SLR ?

Allan: I am glad that I asked the origninal question. I learned something substancial. Thanks for the clarification to all respondents here. Growing up with SLR's, I would never have suspected that Sony does that under the DSLR concept understanding.I think it to miss-leading.

To the definition of an SLR best we apply the traditional use of it (some 50 years in my case) since there is no international standard for camera concept designations (at least to my understanding).

Consider: if we apply your sort of argument then, any of the old single lens cameras, any pre-reflex period Leicas for example - which used parallaxis (a concept which needs a mirror) for distance measuring, would then also qualify as an "SLR." That is clearly not the case.
