Sigma 12-24 f4.5-5.6 is it the perfect APS-c / FF lens?

Looking for a wide angle, for my 7D but have the possibility of FF in the future.

Considered the canon 10-22 and tokina 11-16 but both are locked to APS-c

the tokina looks fantastic with f2.8 it only sacrifices the zoom and i'm almost sold,

the canon sacrifices image quality for the better zoom range and USM but is lightweight

Alternativelly the 17-40L is cheap, lightweight and good optics - but poor in the corners on FF and is wide angle really on APS-c.

So i'm thinking the 12-24 if used for landscapes mainly will be at f5.6+ anyway

has HSM fast focussing compared to the tokina

covers a greater range sacrificing the short end a bit

and is very sharp throughout especially in the corners which is essential

Saying this i do want to use filters - but ND filters which i can get a Lee filter for.

unfortunately price wise i cannot get this as cheap but here are the prices i found

Canon EF-S 10-22mm f3.5-4.5 USM - £484.00

Tokina DX 11-16mm F2.8 II - £464

SIGMA 12-24mm F4.5-5.6 II DG HSM - £460

As you can see the price is much of a muchness now from when they came out so its purely quality and what's best really.
