But I would think carefully about it if Oly would deliver a light and compact 12-50/2.8-4.0 or 12-45/2.8-4.0, particularly if it matches the optical performance of the FT 12-60. If Fuji can make a rather light (300 g), compact, and quite good 18-55/2.8-4.0 for APS-C, it shouldn't be impossible for Oly to squeeze in a bit more range and still go pretty much equal with the Fuji for size.

One would think so but then a f/2.8-4 12-50 mm lens would be expected to be noticeably larger than the 12-50 mm f/3.5-6.3 lens.

If they kept the internal-zoom, power-zoom, and macro feature from the 12-50/3.5-6.3, yes. But if not, I think it might well be made smaller (shorter when zoomed out). Weight would most likely have to exceed that of the 12-50 due to more as well as bigger glass elements, but hopefully stay at the 300 g (or so) level.

Agreed. And if it ends at 50mm f4, the diameter wouldn't have to be larger than the Panasonic 12-35 f2.8, which has a 58mm filter thread.
