Re: Prime Shooters vs Zoom Lens Appreciators

Its all down to the individual to be honest. For my dslr setup I have mainly zoom lenses with just one prime. I also have two zooms for my Nikon F100.
Nikon D7000
Sigma 10-20mm
Tamron 17-50mm f2.8
Nikon 50mm f1.8G
Tamron 70-200mm f2.8
Nikon F100

Tokina 20-35mm f3.5/4.5
Nikon 28-105mm f3.5/4.5 macro

When I decided to come to a m43 setup I decided I wanted it primarily as a prime setup for two reasons. 1. IQ is better with a prime over a zoom and 2. Price. The price of certain prime lenses with m43 are pretty good. So I've opted for a Olympus Omd e-m5 and I have the following lenses.

Olympus 12-50mm kit
Panasonic 14mm f2.5
Sigma 19mm f2.8
Sigma 30mm f.2.8
Olympus 45mm f1.8

Most of my shooting done with the Olympus is done with the primes, it's how I like to shoot. Does it mean that I look down on people who use zooms or it's wrong? Nope just how I like to shoot. I'll try and link the lenses in percentage to how I use them.

Panasonic 14mm - 35%
Olympus 45mm - 35%
Sigma 30mm - 12%
Sigma 19mm 12%
Olympus 12-50mm kit - 6%

As I mentioned price earlier my four primes cost me £486 and the 12-50mm come as part of the kit with the OMD where as the Panasonic 12-35mm f2.8 costs £849 new here in the UK. (I got both Sigmas second hand for £150). For me it was a no brainer going the prime route over the zoom route. I have at least as good and probably better image quality over the 12-35mm f2.8 (apart from 12mm) for half the cost.
