What amazes me is how much noise can enter the picture even when it's taken in RAW (or RW2). (As demonstrated by how much noise is covered up by stacking). I would have expected these kinds of results from JPG images but not from RAW.

And that leads me to the next question: the FZ150 also saves RAW files as RW2... so why is it (other than possible optical considerations...which must be very small) that makes an upgraded version of Silkypix or other software necessary when "upgrading" from 150 to FZ200?

Rudy, fantastic shots to use for your processing "experiments"!

Hi Ed:

IF your question is addressed to me, I'm afraid I don't quite understand it... or is this an open question for anyone?

I think the answer to the second part is

Some .RW2 viewers (e.g. Picasa) probably just have algorithms for 'Panasonic' so they don't need to be upgraded when the new models arrive

Other .RW2 viewers (e.g. Silkypix and the ones which use the Windows codec) look like they don't have a generic "Panasonic" processor, but have specific ones for FZ100, FZ150, etc. If your camera's not on the list, it's simply reported as "not supported" even if the algorithm is very close to an existing one.
