I read Thom's article in 2004 and bought a Gitzo series 2 with a Markins M10 ballhead. One of the best photography investments I ever made, and it will surely be one of the longest lasting. I'm planning to get the RRS L-bracket for the E-M5. I'm currently using a Kirk plate I originally bought for my GF1. I've long used an L-bracket on my Nikon D200, and I really miss the flexibility. I'm a fan of portrait orientation landscapes as well.

I can say that the RRS L bracket and grip for the OM-D is outstanding. It's also very flexible in that it is a 3 part unit...each part can be had for $60. $120 for the 2 pieces that make up the L and $180 including grip. Pricey, but so far, worth it. Very nice. Really fits my hands well and looks outright badass attached to my murdered out OM-D.
