How did they make the 45mm 1.8 Olympus so small?

I don't consider

the 45/1.8 excessively small, at least not when comparing it to the Panny 14 or 20mm.\

But it is a comfortable size, as long as you're not trying to stick camera plus lens in your shirt pocket.

For comparison, it's a little longer but slimmer and lighter than my OMZ 50/1.8  The OM lens actually looks smaller (on an OM) because it is squat, while the 45 sticks out more.  Of course by the time you add an adapter, the OM becomes massive on anm43 body
