Continuous vs. Speed priority continuous ?

I am looking through the handbook for the NEX6 and I can't understand what the trade-off is when choosing "Speed priority continuous shooting" versus just plain "Continuous shooting". The manual is not very clear at all in that sense. (Long gone are the days when manuals/handbooks actually explained how your device works rather than just showcasing what buttons to press in order to do a certain thing.)

From the handbook:

"Cont. Shooting
Shoots images continuously while you press and hold down the shutter button.

Spd Priority Cont.
The camera continues to shoot as long as the shutter button is pressed. You can
continuously shoot at a rate faster than that of [Cont. Shooting] (at a maximum of about
10 images per second)."

There must be a IQ trade-off when using speed priority but they don't say what the trade-off is.

Any ideas?
