It really Doesn’t Matter once you reach a certain image quality...

…in smaller sensors. That quality, or near enough, has been reached on m43 with the 16 MPX sensors for most practical purposes, I would suggest.

The total light falling on the sensor is a straw man if ever I saw one.

The depth of field argument is real, but only in instances where you want very liited depth of field. I would contend that battling to get enough depth of field is a problem for FF users just as often as battling to limit depth of field is for m43 users.
